Trouble Organizing Typeform Responses Into Categories for My Website

I manage a food-related site called Modern Food Catering, and I’m using Typeform to collect recipe feedback and small survey responses from users. The issue I’m facing is that the responses aren’t grouping correctly into the categories I set (like cuisine type or meal preference). Even with conditional logic, everything ends up in a single list when I export it.

Has anyone dealt with this before? I’d really appreciate guidance on the best setup for organizing responses into clean, separate categories.

@modernfood - Connect your typeform to a Google Sheet and the answers will end up there as welll.

that will give you more control over the ability to categorize and sort your responses.

I’ve dealt with this before, and it’s usually a setup issue rather than a Typeform bug.

For categories like cuisine or meal type, use multiple choice or dropdowns instead of open text. Make sure each category question is a separate field and not reused across different logic paths, as that often causes everything to merge in exports.

If you still need cleaner separation, send the data to Google Sheets or Zapier and auto-sort responses into different sheets based on the selected category. That approach is much more reliable than Typeform’s default export.

I’m having the same question and running into a very similar issue. I’m also using Typeform and noticing that responses don’t stay grouped the way the logic is set up. Everything ends up merged together when exporting, which makes sorting really frustrating. I’ve tried adjusting conditions and hidden fields, but the result is still the same. It feels like either I’m missing a key setting or this is a limitation of Typeform exports. I’d really like to know if there’s a proper workaround or best practice for this. Hoping someone here has already solved it.

@davidwarner46 - you may want to consider Connecting your typeform to Google Sheets and using Sheets to do the sorting etc on the data table.

when you connect a typeform with responses to a new google sheet, it will ask you if you want to load in the existing results - it will do so up to 2k records, i think that is still the limit.

worth a shot.
