I was reading some of the topics in the Community and noticed that we don't have a space to talk about films and TV series! đ˝
Since one of my favorite things in the world is watching movies, I decided to create this thread. Last weekend, I watched King Richard and would definitely recommend it! I love movies that are based on true stories and also the ones that talk about sports (One of my favorites of all time is "The Blind Side").
Not sure what I'm in the mood for now, so I'm here to ask: What are your movie and TV program suggestions? đż

@Gabi Amaral I totally get it (regarding BCS) and I echo John in that I hope you have a great vacay! Iâm sure you update us with several photos and anecdotes upon your return, ha!
Wow, I have a lot of things to watch!
I actually had just started at Typeform and was in Barcelona when those terrorist attacks happened. Crazy to think of how long ago that was. Iâll have to watch the documentary.Â
Admittedly, Iâve been tired outside of work, so Iâve been watching really cheesy things that donât require too much thinking. I just watched Wedding Season on Netflix:Â
@Darnell I watched the pilot of WestWorld once for a class and it looked interesting! I think itâs on my ever-growing list of things to watch. They arenât totally done with the show...are they? Or are theyâŚ
@Grace Let us know how the new Game of Thrones series is! I still have to watch Game of Thrones in general.Â
@Mikkel Iâll have to watch the Wheel of Time! It was advertised liked crazy all of Los Angeles for a while, which sometimes deters me from watching. But if you say itâs good!
@Liz Yeah, that Westworld pilot was crazy, right!? So now theyâre now 4 seasons in and as of now, it has not been officially given the green light for Season 5, so itâs up in the air whether there will be more seasons.
@Liz I think we have very similar tastes in things to watch when we donât want to try hard, I watched Wedding Season too I actually quite enjoyed it.
Still havenât started new GOT or Lord of the Rings, sure it wonât be long though, as the temperature drops and nights draw in itâll be some good viewing over winter!Â
I watched Mary Queen of Scots this weekend, I wanted to watch it when it was first released and never did, and to be honest Iâm glad I didnât go to the cinema as I was a bit bored!Â
Iâm heading to the UK tomorrow to see my family where Iâll be catching up on the latest series of Great British Bake Off with my mumÂ
@Grace safe travels to the UK!
@Grace - travel safely and we expect to see the creations that you and your mum attempt after watching the show..Â
Â
Thanks @Darnell and @john.desborough - weâre making my sister a birthday cake so will try to remember to get some photos of what we come up with...
Ok, I've just finished watching the series about Dahmer on Netflix and I'm like:Â Â
Need to know if any of you have watched it!?
Evan Peters is incredible, and the whole story is exactly how Dahmer described on his interview with Stone Phillips! It's awful, but the series is interesting to understand how racism and homophobia have played a role to help Dahmer to keep committing the crimes! The State and the police are to be blamed too, no doubt!Â
@Gabi Amaral OMG, you are BRAVE for watching that series, ha!Â
A few friends of mine were getting into that series the weekend that it premiered and we all talking about it while making tortellinis. I just thought the premise of the story was oft-putting b/c based on the trailer, it seemed to be told from Dahmerâs POV.
I also was questioning the intent behind the show and want the showrunners wanted the audience to feel. I couldnât have been an entertaining series so was the goal for it to make you uncomfortable? Disgusted? Disturbed? Etc. But again, that was what I was thinking after seeing the trailer. That doesnât mean Iâm right or that the trailer intended to do that.
Anyway, his story is one I know very, very little of, so I donât have a frame of reference. Americaâs always had a fascination with serial killers but I maybe I just wasnât in the mood for that topic while making tortellinis. Plus I have a sensitive mind and donât want to watch things I canât unsee or have knowledge I canât forget. Certain movies have scarred me for life and I canât imagine not being scarred by seeing that one.
What do you think, Gabi?
@Gabi Amaral I just started watching the series on Saturday! I havenât made it through the first episode yet (I fell asleep because I put it on late at night), but WOW, is it cringey! I have to watch it with a friend because Iâm too afraid to watch it alone.Â
@Darnell HAHA it would be a little weird to watch that show while cooking. I read online that many people were upset by it because it just resurfaces the trauma, but from watching the first episode alone, I liked that it called out issues in society with race and homophobia. It made me think how much various issues play a role in killings and peopleâs desire to kill.Â
I will also mention that I watched this, mistakingly, after eating a few tacos, which I would not recommend.Â
I also watched Halloween Ends this weekend, not exactly by choice, but because it was my friendâs birthday and thatâs what he wanted to watch. It wasnât bad though! Anyone else seen it yet?Â
Â
@Liz - tacos? at least it wasnât Silence of the Lambs..lol
I ended up watching Caddyshack with my wife last night - she had never seen the movie.. and i told her that this was how i felt:Â
Â
that was after ripping up the deck that sits on top of a flat roof - that is leaking into the swimming pool below - to get rid of the squirrels that were nesting and building their seed/nut stash for the winter.Â
in the photo below you can see the âgreenâ seed stash of the red squirrels - it continues under the remaining boards all the way to the broom on the right of the photo.. there are still two more ânestsâ under those boards as well.. three black squirrel nests were removed from the far side of the deckÂ
the rodents spent the afternoon âyellingâ at me from the trees and hydro line at the back of the property. methinks they were a little grumpy about losing their winter homes. I am not planning on replacing the deck this winter but will get the roof redone before the winter snows arrive. yes, Winter is ComingâŚÂ though i have yet to see an episode.Â
for reference sake, the overall deck is 24 feet by 20 feet..Â
today i am living on advil and coffee lol
Â
Wow @john.desborough what an adventure youâre having with those varmints. Looks like theyâve been squirrelling seeds up there for some time judging by the foliage Good luck keeping them out - did you ask them if theyâd like a nice cool drink? Â
Iâve a feeling they wonât give up their stash box that easily, they are resourceful creatures
Â
Â
Keep us posted on how it goes!!!
Â
Â
@Darnell I love watching true crime documentaries and series! I've heard a lot of people criticising the series based on that, but personally, I didn't have empathy for him at all! Even when they show his childhood years etc, so if they wanted to tell the story based on Dahmer's POV to create empathy, it definitely didn't work for me.Â
I do think it's pretty graphic, that bothered me a bit yes. And I understand your questioning of the intent behind it. I've read some news where the victim's families were questioning why they are bringing back these memories, and I couldn't agree more with them. It must be awful for the families to see everyone talking about that once again!Â
By the way, have started watching "House of the Dragon" in the weekend and I'm so glad I did it! I'm a GOT lover, so it's amazing to go back to this universe once again. Anyone else is watching it?Â

Â
@Liz yeah and actually, the people I was with watched it a few days prior, so we were just discussing the topic of the show while cooking rather than watching while cooking. But itâs good to know that subtext you mentioned is there regarding those societal issues rather than it coming off as a type of torture porn, ya know? Anyway, thanks for your review of it!

@James thatâs an incredible gif, ha!

@Gabi Amaral yeah that series certainly has folks talking. Iâm not too big on true crime shows but Kim is, seemingly like you. The other side of it for me is that I have too of an impressionable mind. Iâm afraid Iâll see moments and situations in that show that may become unforgettable. Whatâs worst is knowing that any percentage of those events is true, so then it really sticks in my mind. Oh well, we all have our limits, right?
Re: HOTD - I havenât started it yet but am considering giving the full season a spin after the finale airs on Sunday. The GOT mythology does have some merits but I find that big controversial thing the Targaryens and the Lannisters are known for (starts with an âIâ) to be quite cringey for my taste. I understand that some prior civilizations apparently behaved that way to keep their bloodlines âpureâ so those two series drew inspo from it but maybe I havenât yet matured to the point where I can comfortably consume heightened and repetitive amounts of it, ya know?
Of the two big fantasy series in the zeitgeist right now, I chose The Rings of Power b/c Iâm more of a Tolkienverse fan just based on his on-screen adaptions alone. Never even read any of the books but man, what an incredible imagination he had. I donât read fantasy books but I may just have to include his works amongst my hardcover collection b/c if the movies are that good, surely the books must be, right?
@James @Darnell - that IS a great gifâŚÂ definitely a UK soccer/football hooligan squirrel.. one of the more aggressive varietalsâŚÂ
i might have to put on some Kenny Loggins music to try and set the mood for the final boards being removed todayâŚÂ maybe that will also help to drive them away.. they seem to love The CureâŚÂ
though I will admit that i did see a hawk grab some lunch to go yesterdayâŚÂ hawks 8 squirrels 0..Â
Â
Â
I totally get you, @Darnell! I like true crime but I have horror, for example! I've heard some people were passing out watching Terrifier 2. I refuse to watch this kind of movie!Â
HOTD - I know..Incest is a big thing on this one as well, which is weird. A lot of people are making fun of that in the internet, of the fact they hated Cersei and Jaime but that they're loving Rhaenyra and Daemon! Hehehehe. I'm looking forward to the season finale!Â
I'm also watching the third season of "Love Is Blind US"! I know it's a bit silly but I usually have fun watching some of these realities. Now, I'll have some time off so I'll be able to watch more stuff!Â
@Gabi.Amaral oh lord, people passing out watching that movie!? Yeah, Iâm stay FAAAAR away from that one, ha!
I think Iâll be diving into The Offer next since that series looks pretty good.
deck gone.. there were three squirrels sitting out in the middle of the open space (see the pic below) looking like they were the Dons of the local madmen plotting their revenge..Â
next step to rip up and replace the roof..Â
think i might hire âa guyâ to do that this time..Â
Â
Â
I knoooow, @Darnell! I'm passing far from this one as well...really don't like these things! The offer? Where is it?Â
Aaah, I was trying to find the squirrels in the photo, @john.desborough! Where are they now?Â
By the way, have an incredible movie recommendation here (for the folks who enjoy history, I love it!).
It's "Argentina 1985"!
The movie is about a trial that prosecuted the ringleaders of Argentina's bloody military dictatorship, it's a true story and with the fenomenal actor Ricardo Darin (I'm such a fan of him, even took a photo with him in the second time I visited Buenos Aires!). Soooo good!Â
Here's my photo with him :

@Gabi.Amaral The Offer is a series about the making of The Godfather and is playing on Paramount+. Is that available where you are?
And ok, I will take you up Argentina 1985! So cool that you met that actor!
@Gabi.Amaral Adding this to my winter watch list! My list keeps growing, thanks to you all. Maybe Iâll have to take holiday just to watch everything!Â
I have sadly started watching this, which I thought would be some cheesy thing I wouldnât get addicted to, but apparently all the reviews say itâs really good!Â
