Question

automatically enabling closed captions / subtitles for video.

How do I enable CC on a video. I want CC / subtitles to automatically be enabled once the video loads, so that once a person clicks play subtitles will be shown as a default.

While I see the CC option for a video once it loads and I can enable it by clicking the English CC, this resets on the next slide, so I have to hit CC again, then select English CC.

Hi @bobosein there is an option within settings to toggle closed captions on and off. To access this you need to go up to the right corner where there is a small icon. Once you have clicked this, you then look on the general tab and then select/deselect ‘Show closed captions by default’.

It should like the below:

Once you have done this, there is the option to edit and review your closed captions from each video segment you have put in place. To do this, navigate to the video tab. Then select the icon ‘CC’ on the display. I hope this helps answer your question!

Thanks @Ash.NZ for the reply.

What you’re describing is for Videoask. My problem is concerning videos embedded in Typeform or video questions. I don’t see similar settings for videos within Typeform.

Ahhh… understood! I am not as familiar with the video functionality on Typeform. As this has come through as a VideoAsk post, if you can repost the question under Typeform Q&A here: https://community.typeform.com/typeform-conversations-5 you should then hopefully be able to get some support from one of the knowledgeable people on there.

I understand the video functionalities are definitely being enhanced and developed for Typeform, but I am not aware on the specifics of setting up closed captions on Typeform sorry!

If the video will be used on Typeform, Typeform only requests for links from this sources, and each source allows CC on its own, so you can enable the settings from the source you choose before uploading on Typeform. Is that helpful? @bobosein

Hey @bobosein great question!

As @Ash.NZ mentioned, video in Typeform is still pretty new and we’re working on improving the control and settings at the moment. I will catch up with the product team and ask them about enabling captions automatically. I’ll let you know what I hear back!

Let us know if you have any other feedback, as it’s a new feature we’re keen to hear how people are using it 😊

@Emma Burt in the summer we released a set of Growth plans which have new video capabilities included, so as well as being able to include a link to a video you can now create a video question. Here’s the Help Center article with more info just in case you’re curious 😊
