Multiple responses to videoask from same respondant

Todd Rhoades

Sorry, I actually posted this in the typeform Q&A originally.

I have a long videoask (about 25 questions) that I am using for a screening job interview.

I realize that longer videoasks will have some issues with retention (from start to finish).

But the majority of the people that are filling out my videoask are somehow creating multiple new conversations.  So rather than one submission, I’m getting 3-5 in some/most cases.

Here is what I am seeing:
1  -  One my first steps is to ask for a file upload of their resume.  This nearly always comes as a separate entry.

2  -  It appears that people are maybe leaving and then coming back and starting over from scratch.  Why would this be happening on such a consistent basis?  (I’ve checked and test the videoask and it seems to work flawlessly

3  -  A separate issue, but I have a good percentage that say that they can’t get the video to work.  I get that there will be some technically challenged people, but it seems to be a fairly sizeable number.

Has anyone else had this issue with longer videoasks and can help?  (We have implemented shorter videoasks with 3-5 questions and have had no issues whatsoever or feedback that ‘I can’t get this to work’.

Any help would be wildly appreciated.

For example, this person’s first entry just had the resume (the first step).  Her second entry had the resume upload and three additional steps.  And her last (third) entry had all the questions answered, including the first 4 steps she had already answered); but you’ll notice on the last step that she says she was never able to get the video to work.

I can send along the share link of this videoask if that helps. :)

Thanks,

Hey @Todd Rhoades thanks for stopping by the community 😊

At the moment, VideoAsk doesn’t have the ability to save your place - so if someone starts filling it in and then leaves and comes back they’ll have to start the process from the beginning. This would explain why you’re seeing multiple entries from the same candidates.

It sounds like candidates might be leaving to prepare to answer some of the questions - can you see any correlation between the drop off points in these cases?

It might be worth either explaining during the first step that they will need to get everything ready to answer all 25 questions/steps in one go, or you could look at breaking up the videoask into 2 or 3 shorter versions that follow on from each other to help people get through it?

Do you have any idea of a general run time of answering the videoask in one go? It might also be worth explaining that a candidate will need to dedicate X amount of time to responding to the videoask.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any follow up questions!

I do mention that it will take about 15 minutes to complete; that they need to do it in one sitting; and that they’ll need a digital copy of their most recent resume.

There is no consistent drop-off point, so that has made it hard to diagnose.

Also, any suggestions (overall) on why it seems so many people are having trouble getting their video to work on this one?  We have no issues on our other videoasks that we’re using with our candidate database… everyone seems to be able to get everything up and running just fine. :)

Thanks!

Hi @Todd Rhoades thanks for the extra information, it’s interesting that people are still leaving and returning to the form despite you preparing them for what’s ahead. It’s hard to know why the video wouldn’t be working without specific examples - which I understand isn’t necessarily possible to get when you’re trying to get information from candidates.

Could you send the videoask URL over for us to take a look at?
