Community Movie Club

Hello all! So I watched three movies on flights this week, but the one I really want to share is the one below! In college, I was OBSESSED with this YouTube series, and I’m so sad I didn’t know that they made it into a movie (and that it was nominated for an Oscar!) until now. 

If you haven’t seen the short videos, definitely go watch them!

Oh yeh @Liz I remember someone on the VideoAsk team talking about this a while back, I’d never seen it before but looks so cute!

I just watched Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio on one of my flights, anyone seen that? It was really well done, I wasn’t a huge fan of Pinocchio as a kid but I enjoyed this one!

@john.desborough it’ll make you laugh on your flight, that’s for sure!

@Grace I’ve been wanting to watch that! I’m also not a big fan of the original story, but I’ll add it to my list to watch this weekend!

Get ready for a few tears @Liz I definitely got a bit choked up watching it!

Disney receives a lot of airtime when there is a 6-year-old in the home. Encanto, Luca, Turning Red (although since the mother is Chinese, the girl and mom can't watch it together, hehe), and Luca are all fantastic. All of the princess films have been rewatched at least once, and Moana has returned to the rotation (Netflix gave me a letter saying that we have now started that movie 750 times... sigh). 

Netflix's Abominable is also excellent. 

I'll be honest: I want more Mandalorian content. In my opinion, The Wheel of Time on Amazon has been well done if you enjoy science-fiction and fantasy literature and are a fan of Robert Jordan's writing. 

Plenty of food, drink, and music-related documentaries.

Oh wow @brendarobers looks like I picked the wrong day to cancel my Disney+ subscription 😝 We really liked Turning Red in our house, though I haven’t seen any of the other stuff you mentioned (apart from Mandalorian, which I also want more of – I watched Obi Wan but was a tad underwhelmed).

Congrats on getting that letter from Netflix – 750 times is pretty darned impressive (and also a tiny bit scary 🙈) !!!

I’ve been tucking into Close Enough on Netflix this week, which is good for a chuckle (though not a cartoon for a six year-old!)

@brendarobers - glad you enjoyed the exact same shows as I did .. including copying the text from my post a year ago.. lol.. I hope you really did have the parallel experience…..those shows are good..

'My Fault had me hooked from start to finish with its brilliant storytelling and exceptional performances.

Ooh thanks for the suggestion @devilar smith I’ve not seen that one. Do you have any other recommendations for Spanish movies? 

I watched the new Little Mermaid on the plane to America recently, it was ok but I wasn’t a big fan of the additional songs haha! 

I also started watching The Flat Share, I previously read the book and enjoyed it, didn’t realise they had made a series out of it! I have no idea how to watch the rest of it in Spain though 😥

And just started the new series of The Great British Bake Off which I always enjoy but inevitably makes me want cake!

Anyone else watched anything good recently (sorry mine are very low brow suggestions there lol)

i am watching almost all on rts tv which is streaming app like netflix or prime but rts is totally free.

not to bring up any controversies but has anyone watched “It ends with us”, I heard a lot of contradicted opinions and reviews about it, and I would like to know if someone here watched it already and what they think about it

I’ve been watching the Night Agent on Netflix which I’ve enjoyed. It’s an easy watching action/spy/White House conspiracy/thriller. Not the most high brow series but a fun watch nonetheless...

Cool, the last thing I did was, rewatching the friends tv series and I still can't get them out of my head, they were so great, it's a shame there is no comedy series today as good as that one

haha. Yeah, I do miss that gang a lot, too. Decent comedy series like that are hard to come by these days. I was a big fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm but that has gone too now 😥

Yeah Curb was great, and it was great because Larry David is the absolute freaking king of comedy, I really hope we get more of such talent in the coming years.
