Connecting Typeform and Active Campaign in an outcome quiz | Community
Skip to main content

Hi there,

I created an personality outcome quiz in typeform. I want to use it a lead magnet. So I want to typeform to automatically send the end result to active campaign. In active campaign will start an automation based on the end result. Like person is a, so the perosn gets a different mail than someone with the end result b.

I checked all the community forum posts and watched youtube videos but I dont get how to do it.

It would be great, if someone can help me.

I created an outcome quiz because the score logic was to advanced for me. No native english speaker, so its really complicated for me.

thanks a lot!

Hi @MariaStein Happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a good one!

So, the downside of the ActiveCampaign integration is that it doesn’t pass the outcome, which is most likely why there’s a struggle to set this up!

However, we have a couple posts with workarounds using products such as Zapier or Make to send the data between the ActiveCampaign and Typeform. Here is one example below!

If you do use Zapier or Make, you can then add a step that would start a particular automation based on those endings.

Let me know if you do use Zapier or Make, and I can send over an example of how to set this up accordingly!

Hi @Liz, thanks for answering. Yes I saw some of the typeform and active campaign post in the community, but I just didn’t understand some parts, thats why I made a post by myself.

I am using zapier and I also tried and connect the quiz result with active campaign but I fail to get the right points here. I didn’t know what to choose, so I simply choose this, but I want to create new contacts and not existing and I want to tag them already, so that they are in the right automation in active campaign. I stopped working on this zap because I didn’t know what to do.

So if you can help me, I am really really glad because the quiz I created is really cool and I like the user to have a nice experiences using it.

Thanks a lot!

Hi @MariaStein Ah, I see! I believe you’ll need to add additional information on the ActiveCampaign step. Under the “Subscriber” email section, does it allow you to add any further detail? Or what is the error you get when testing it?

Thanks again!

Hi @Liz, I don’t know if I am getting it right, but  I tried to add a new contact to my email list and then zapier wants this information which I can’t provide. Is it possible that someone just shows me what I have to choose in each step?

@Liz

Just to clarify what I want:

I want to collect leads with the outcome quiz. The quiz is designed like a personality quiz. You get to the last page and it shows another ending depending on your answers. You get a glimpse of your type but than I want to send an active campaign automation message in which you get further details on your type.

So I also need to tag the new lead, so that active campaign knows what automation should be activated.

I tried the source quiz but this was also very complicated for me to understand.

Thank you for trying to help me.

Ah! Got it! In that case, all you need to do is change the trigger for the ActiveCampaign. It’s asking these questions since the trigger is currently set to add existing contacts, but you’ll want to change this to the trigger below. That will prevent it from asking you all of the required questions you’re seeing up there!

Hi @Liz, I did this, and it worked after I figured out where I was wrong...

Next question.. Now that I get the contact in Active Campaign, how do I send the outcome, so that the right tag is added and the right automation is sent?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for your help!

@MariaStein Ah! What solved it?

And no worries at all about the questions!

First, if you want to save the outcome in their profile, you’ll want to create a custom contact field. ActiveCampaign has an article here that can walk you through how to do so.

Then, you’ll want to set up a filter in your zap like this, that searches for the outcome in the form. You’ll need to create a zap for each outcome that you have.

Finally, you’ll add this step after the filter, which will add that contact to the automation. There will most likely be a step in here that will ask where to find the existing contact information, and you’ll pull that ata from the email field in Typeform.

Let me know how this goes!

Thanks for your answer.

I am not sure if this works right. Because then I have to create a zap for every other outcome or am I wrong.

Because when I say the outcome title matches exact and I have 8 different outcomes I have to filter every outcome to get the right information to active campaign and to get the contact in the right automation or!?

I think I have an absolut twist in my head…

Here is a picture how I created it.

But I thought I can do the workflow like this:

person a makes the quiz in typeform, email and outcome is send to active campaign, active campaign send an automation based on the outcome.

So do I need the filter condition step or could I just say hey active campaign, use the email and the outcome title or id or whatever information I can transport from typeform to active campaign and then active campaign adds or updates the contact and then because of the custom field outcome title or else the right automation is started?

@MariaStein FYI - I tried using Typeform for the exact same thing - personality quiz lead magnet and I want to send quiz outcome data into Active Campaign - but came into all the same problems as you. It’s a shame because the logs in Active Campaign show that it is receiving the winning outcome data, but they have not yet enabled connecting that data to the contact record. I switched to Interact and they have a product specifically for personality quizzes and the integration with Active Campaign is right in Interact and makes it easy to send the winning outcome to Active Campaign - it has even more integration points too!

Hi @MariaStein Yes, you would sadly need to create a zap for each outcome.

As for the native integration, we have requested an update from their team for the outcomes to be sent to ActiveCampaign. If we have any updates regarding this, we’ll post about it here!
