50% drop off at first question, what can i do?

Hey there!
I already read through the community, really helpful, so I hope you have 1 or 2 ideas for me on the drop off:

I am looking to find the first users for my platform the AI job hunter, so I use typeform to ask them a couple of questions about their job preferences and to share the CV.

people are first on the website upstarter.site and if they go on the CTA“get my spot“ they are redirected to the typeform. The idea is that this works like a bit of a sign up. But I loose almost 50% of the people at the first questions. Is that because they are leaving the website or what could I do differently, maybe not ask for the name to start with and jump straight to job preferences?

thanks in advance!

Hey @Meikel Upstarer thanks for joining the Community and posting your challenge here.

I think you could be right regarding the placement of the name question at the very start of the form. It could be that asking for personal information up-front is putting people off. You could try leaving it until after you’ve asked the role-related questions, and/or you could explain why you need this information from them (a bit like you do with the email question at the end).

Another thing you could do is convert some of the “open ended” questions into multiple choice questions. We generally find this increases form conversions, since the respondent has to do less work.

I love the way you’ve branded the form to match your web site. Maybe you could incorporate some further design elements, even reusing some of the photos/graphics from the site to engage respondents a bit more visually.

For further insights I’d recommend taking a look at this webinar we ran last year on how to improve lead capture forms:

There are some tips there based on Typeform research into behaviours of high-converting forms, as well as some interesting insights from Professor Liz Stokoe about the psychology of asking for information. There are some helpful links to other useful info on form optimization there, too.

The great @john.desborough (who also contributed some insights in that webinar) will kindly be running a live workshop on December 14th on how he uses the insights feature to monitor drop-offs over time. I think that could be useful for you too, as he’ll touch on some tips for improving form conversions. He’ll stick around to answer questions at the end if there’s something in particular you’d like to ask. Registration will be open soon (it’s free!), I can ping you the link if you’re be interested in coming along :)

Thanks, hope this is at least somewhat helpful 😅
