Can I add a free type field to a multiple choice question

Hi, I have created some multiple choice questions for a diversity monitoring survey. What I would like is to give the recipient the choice to put their own answer too? So for example: How would you best describe your sexuality: A B C other - please tell us if you wish. How would i add the: Other - please tell us if you wish after the multiple choice section?

Also, some of my questions have a * after them and I cant delete them! Anyone seen this before?

Thanks

@PCUnion - from a user here..

if you are in the new builder, you can click on the ‘multiple choice’ settings box and toggle the Other field ‘on’ so that users have the option to enter short text.

the * is the mandatory response indicator

Is it possible to set a logic jump from an “other” response in a multiple choice question?

It’s seems like that might require Advanced Logic and I don’t want to undo my Simple Logic jumps if that’s not going to work. I’m really just wondering if I’m missing something obvious, because I don’t see how I set the next step from “other” responses.

Thanks!

Hey @theAis4adam! Happy Friday :)

Adding a condition for the "other" option from a multiple choice question wouldn't be an option at the moment, but I might have some workarounds to share if I have a better understanding of your form. Would you mind sharing more details about your set up? I'll be happy to help!

Thanks @Mariana! My lead capture form is mostly linear, except for one main question that branches into five short, interactive paths, and then back to a quick wrap up where I collect the last contact info. It looks like this.

I have an “Other” option on that last step before the branching paths, and if someone answers with a write-in answer I want to just jump past the branching paths and send them to the “let’s wrap this up” steps at the end. Without being able to set a “go to” next step for that response, it just goes to the first branching path and that won’t make sense to the user obviously.

I think I am just going to remove the “Other” option for now, but I would like to explore some workarounds because I would love to be able to see what other options users submit as a way to gather feedback that I could use to improve the form.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Adam

@theAis4adam - check out this small example of a multiple choice with other in it. from a user of the tool

this does use advanced logic tho...

i have it set to count the number of responses given, ie if all 4 m-choice items are selected the score is 4

it routes from that summary page to an ending depending on if there is an other answer (if there is an other answer, i add 1 to a variable that cause it to jump to an other ending.

it’s really quickly done but seems to work across all cases that i have tested.. if we can find a bug in the other logic ability, here, that would be good to know
