Hi,

I wanted to pass GA4 source/medium to typeform result section through hidden field. For that I have added source, medium and campaign as hidden field. In GA4 I can see the source and medium against the leads. Need some guidance on how to pass the same data to typeform.

Hi @RMK MKadam If you have Google Analytics on your website/form, this should already pass this information in. Otherwise, you would need to create a code that can capture this information and input it into the hidden fields.

Hi @RMK MKadam Happy Tuesday! Have you taken a peek at our UTM tracking article yet? This should help you set this up!

Hi, Thank you for your reply. I already setup the above for Social, Email etc

However I wanted to understand how we can pass other sources to typeform where we can’t append any UTMs such as organic and direct traffic

Hi @RMK MKadam If you turn on the UTM variables, it should be able to pick up those sources as long as you are passing that data into the hidden fields.

Hi @RMK MKadam I’m afraid you need to turn on UTM parameters (hidden fields) to pass in the information.

I see the confusion here. So GA4 cannot automatically populate hidden fields in Typeform with source and medium data (and it certainly can't do it for organic and direct traffic where UTM parameters aren't present)

One option is to put UTM parameters in the URL's you send people form your ads, and then you can use Typeform's default UTM capturing feature to grab them with each form submission. It works well, but only if the lead completes a form on the exact same page they initially land on. If they browse around your site before submitting the form (even if it's just going from your homepage to your contact us page) then the UTMs are lost and no data will come through.

The other option is to use 3rd party tools like Attributer.io. It captures the UTM parameters you put behind your ads (plus other information, like if a lead came organic search, organic social, referral, direct traffic, etc.) the moment they land on your site. It stores the data as they browse around, and then automatically writes that data into hidden fields when they submit your Typeform.

With either approach, you should then be able to see the data with each form submission in the Responses section of Typeform, include it in email notifications, send it to your CRM, etc,
