I want to use the free professionalplan which the github student developer plan provides. I went to the claim offer website, linked my github account and and then logged in to my typeform account but I get an error message stating something went wrong and thus I am not able to use the free professional plan.

I escalated your case to the billing team and you should have received a confirmation via email that your coupon has been added directly to your account. This means you can now upgrade to a paid plan with 100% off (make sure to select the yearly version).

Also, please keep in mind that all Typeform plans are automatically recurring! So, if you want to discontinue at any point you'll need to cancel your plan from your Account Settings section. Otherwise, your plan will be renewed next year (without the discount).

Do you mind creating a ticket with them here? They will be able to help you further regarding your coupon
P.S.: Please make sure you use the same email of your Typeform account. This is because tickets that are not raised with the right account will take more time to get a response since non Typeform users have a different priority.
