Videos buggy when playing

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hi - and many TIA for any help or advice. I have embedded a video in my Typeform. When I click move to that screen, the video plays with no sound and the play button is still on the screen with the video playing. I have to click play twice for the sound to work but when I click play the second time the video starts over from the beginning. This is happening on mobile and desktop. On mobile it also displays a ‘Reply’ button, rather than ‘Continue’ during this process.

Looking back through historical Typeform community threads I see that somebody had this problem (on mobile only) 2 years ago & it was apparently resolved. But it is affecting me now. Can anybody help?

With many thanks, Janet

Hi @Janet Douglas are you able to share the link to your typeform for us to look at? It might be worth reaching out to the support team too, just in case this is a bug, so we can get it resolved asap!

Thanks so much for responding so quickly, Grace. And I am really sorry but I am unable to share the video at this stage (don’t have permission). I have asked the support team for help but if anybody has any pointers in the mean time that would be great.

With many many thanks, Janet

Ah I see, I understand. Sounds like a job for our support team, they’ll be able to get in and see what’s happening. Let me know if you have any trouble reaching them. Hopefully this can be resolved quickly!

I have talked to Typeform support who were very helpful but apparently this isn’t a bug - it is meant to happen. The first video always plays automatically without sound & you have to click ‘play’ to make it play with sound. It also comes up with a ‘Reply’ button on mobile. This is also intentional on the part of Typeform. Apparently these features may change in the future. But I wanted to post this here as I have spent HOURS trying to figure out what was going on, eventually concluding that it was a bug in the software - and it turns out that the software was doing exactly what it was meant to be doing!

@Janet Douglas thank you so much for coming back to share this, and I’m so sorry you’ve spent so much time on getting the answer 🙈

Hopefully it’s not a major blocker for your workflow. We’d love to see the finished form once it’s ready for public consumption, always cool to see how folks are using video in Typeform, so keep us posted if you can!

Thanks so much for sharing this update, @Janet Douglas — I’ve just run into the exact same issue and also thought it was a bug. Really appreciate you taking the time to clarify what’s actually going on behind the scenes with the autoplay/sound behavior and mobile ‘Reply’ button. Definitely saved me a ton of troubleshooting time. Hopefully Typeform does offer more flexible video playback options in the future!
