I've recently started using VideoAsk as part of the training within my educational membership. I create a videoask with a question and my members (students) reply with their own videos. This is working great.

However, I would like to limit replies-to-replies to just text. So right now:

  1. I create the videoask with a question - 👍
  2. Member responds with a video reply - 👍
  3. I reply to the member with feedback - 👍
  4. Member has the option to continue sending videos back to me - 👎

I want to stop the back-and-forth video after step 3. So when a member gets a videoask reply from me, I want them to have the option to respond in text or not respond at all. Is that possible?

Hey @Jeff Baird great question!

When you reply to the member with your feedback on point 3 you can switch the response option to a button response, so they can’t reply back with a video. The button would need to go somewhere, so maybe you could redirect them to a relevant webpage or link?

Oh this is even better! I was looking in the VideoAsk setup. I’ll try it out this week!

Great! You should have the ability to switch between the two options every time you’re about to send a reply, let me know if you need any help with setting it up!

Hi Grace. So, I saw that and worked it into my workflow - fantastic. My next question is whether I can set a link as the default behavior. I'm going to get a bunch of these every week and I want to limit the replies to all of them by default. As far as I can tell, I would have to manually flip the switch to “button”, type button text, and type a URL every time. Is there any way to set this as default so I don't have to type that in everyt ime?

Hi @Jeff Baird glad you were able to get it set up, I don’t think there’s a way to automate this 🤔

My first thought was maybe using something like Make you could create a workflow, but I’ve not seen it done before so I’m not 100% sure if it would be possible.

I’m wondering if @Ash.NZ has ever experimented with something like this?

Thanks for the tag @Grace. I have read through your post @Jeff Baird and the following thread and just trying to get clarity on what you are trying to achieve here.

There is quite a lot that can be automated with Make.com (or potentially using some of VideoAsk’s lesser known features with a bit of creativity). I may just need to gather a bit more specifics step by step on what would be your ideal, and I can let you know if it could theoretically be produced, or an alternative.

As a possible thought, would a chat screen be a good idea for you to give feedback to and continue interacting on a text to text basis? I guess it all relates to how quick the follow up to their video is.

Would an option such as the following be suitable?

  1. I create the videoask with a question - 👍
  2. Member responds with a video reply - 👍
  3. Set a thank you video with button to a designated URL (I am thinking you could use a full screen chat window that it is redirected to - alternatively, this could be set to show within the same iframe window / or widget following by using the following
?redirect_target=self applied to the end of the VideoAsk URL within the embed code.

  4. I reply to the member with feedback - 👍

Alternatively, would it be worth having a chat widget on your website page in addition to the embedded VideoAsk? You could set it so that after they complete the VideoAsk you could then set on screen directions to indicate that further feedback will be provided through the chat window. You could test or potentially use a free chat widget like https://www.tawk.to/.

There is possibility for more of a customised set up, this would take a bit more investigation and understanding as to what would be the ideal outcome. I hope this helps!

I don't think an automation or another tool is what I'm after. I'm just looking for a polite way to end the back-and-forth video conversation. You already have this built into the tool; the only problem is that I have to click and type in the button text and URL every time.

I'll be doing many of these a week, so I'll have to type the same button text, same button URL multiple times a week. The question is whether there is a default setting for this, so that I don't have to type the same URL and button text over and over.

The action is at :16 to :26 in this video:

So the question is… is there a way to set a default button text & default URL so I don't have to type every time?

Thanks!
