Hello,

I am trying to find out if there is a way of getting a UTM into TypeForm so that when someone completes the quiz we can track how they found us.

Is this possible?

Thanks!

Hi @TheLeap Yes, you can add UTM variables to your form! This article here has a bit more information on how to do so. 😀

Yes, this is definitely possible! Typeform has built-in UTM tracking functionality that you can enable in your form settings.

However, there's an important limitation to be aware of: Typeform only captures UTM parameters if the user completes the form on the exact same page they initially landed on. So if someone clicks your ad (with UTMs), lands on your homepage, then navigates to another page where your Typeform is embedded before completing it, the UTMs will be lost.

If you need the UTMs to persist as users browse around your site, I would suggest checking out a tool like Attributer.io (https://www.typeform.com/connect/attributer). It captures the UTM parameters when someone first lands on your site, stores them in a first-party cookie, and then writes them into hidden fields on your Typeform when it's eventually submitted. This way you get the UTM data regardless of how much the user browses around before converting.

As a bonus, it also captures attribution data for visitors who come from organic channels (Organic Search, Organic Social, Direct Traffic, etc.) where UTM parameters aren't present, plus other useful data like the GCLID, landing page URL, and form submission page.

You could also write some custom JavaScript to store the UTMs yourself, but that requires ongoing maintenance as browsers update and your site structure changes.

Hope this helps!
