Question

How to protect your method once links are shared?

Hi people,

Hope you’re all doing great!

I’m quite new here , exploring Typeform, and I would like to know the following:

How can you avoid that someone with access to the generic links, could access again and again with the aim to copy all questions and answer categories and walk away with your method?

So far, I sent general links to our testers. So I understand they could access eternally to them?

Is there a way to avoid this? To make sure a link is only valid once? (They could still copy while they fill it in, but at least not enter again once submitted).

I tried to avoid this by generating a copy of the questionnaire. But in that case, the data are gone and you start all over… that’s a shame for comparisons, etc.

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Have a great day,

Esther

Hi @Esther Tip-Top great question!

There is a feature that’s currently available on the Growth plans, that allows you to prevent duplicate responses, or limit the number of times someone answers your form, you can edit this in your form settings:

If you’re not on that plan, it might be wise to consider how you are sharing your form, and what information you are sharing? Do you think it’s likely that someone would want to steal your content? It would be great to get some feedback from you that I could share with out Product team, if you’re able to share with us. 🙏

Hi Grace, thanks for your reply. The option you mention is at the moment not within my reach, I’m not on the Growth plan. And yes, what I want to try to avoid, is having people copying the list of questions, as it is a methodology. Maybe they don’t think of that when they fill it in for the first time, but anytime they would want to do so, they would only have to click on the link and enter again...So having the possibility to closing it off after someone has answered, would be great. Or, changing the link itself, and continue with a new link, would also be ok. The problem with this last option is that you then loose the data that have been collected with the first link, and start all over again. Or do I get it wrong?

Hi @Esther Tip-Top definitely see how valuable it would be to use that function for people to only be able to respond once to your form.

You could close the form, and create a new one to send - you wouldn’t lose any of the data you collect by closing the form, that would still live in your Typeform account. You could also send this data to a Google Sheet or Excel so you have a record of it outside your account. You can duplicate a form so you don’t need to recreate the whole thing each time.

Let me know if that might work, and in the meantime I will share your feedback with the team.

Hi Grace,

This could work, in fact it’s something I was planning to do as soon as I can. I am still waiting for some responses of other people with the same link. Once I’ve got their responses, I will duplicate the form.

Thanks again!

Esther

That’s great to hear @Esther Tip-Top! Thanks for sharing here, it’s sparked some interesting conversations internally, so I am prevent duplicate responses will be coming to more plans soon...
