How to retrive link to files uploaded to Google Drive? | Community

Dear all,

I hope you’re doing well. I am writing to report an issue I’ve encountered with the file upload function in Typeform. I have set up a file upload form and connected it to my Google Drive account so that files submitted via the form are automatically copied to my Drive.

However, when mapping the fields in Zapier, I only receive the Typeform API URL, which directs to the file stored in the Typeform database. Unfortunately, this link is only accessible through the Typeform results page and does not grant external access to the file on Google Drive. There appears to be no way to access the direct Google Drive link from Zapier.

Could you please advise on how to obtain the direct Google Drive link for the uploaded files? Being able to share a publicly accessible link in my email communications is crucial for my workflow.

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your guidance on resolving this issue.

Best regards,

Hi @Warcello Happy Tuesday! I hope you’re having a good one. Sadly, this is expected behavior of those links. Our product team purposely requires a login in order to protect the links from anyone who might have encountered them (and shouldn’t have access to that data). Understandably, from a customer perspective, I get why you would want open access to those links!

Thankfully, we have a post below that can walk you through how to get the file from those links through Zapier without logging in.

Let me know how this goes for you!

Hi Liz,

Thanks for the quick response and for sharing the resource post on retrieving the file via Zapier without logging in. I understand that the current behavior is by design to protect the data.

In the meantime, I’ve come up with a workaround that involves formatting the incoming Typeform URLs so that I extract just the filename as an output (using Regex in the text/patten function). I then use that output to search for a matching record in my Google Drive folder and retrieve the easily sharable Google Drive link from there. This method seems to work well for now.

I appreciate your assistance and look forward to any future updates that might streamline this process.

Best regards.

Hi @Warcello Oh wow! This is quite the workaround. Thank you so much for sharing this, and let us know how it goes for you over time!
