This question got asked recently here in the Community, so thought it would be good to document the answer for future reference! 👀

Will embedding a typeform hurt your search rankings? The short answer is no! Because your website and your typeform live on different URLs, search engines treat them as separate entities.

Here are some tips on how to manage your forms for the best SEO results:

The "two URL" rule

When you embed a Typeform into a page (like a WordPress site), the search engine sees two distinct things:

  • Your page: The content, keywords, and authority of your own domain.
  • The embed: An external frame hosted by Typeform.

Embedding a form will not negatively impact your site’s ranking or stop your pages from being indexed.

Controlling "search result" visibility

You have the power to decide if your standalone Typeform URL shows up in Google searches. This is controlled via the "Show in search results" toggle in the Share panel.

If your goal is growing site traffic, we recommend keeping this toggled off. This will keep the focus on your website, the embedded form will still work perfectly and the typeform link won’t compete with your site search results.

If you are running a direct campaign, and your typeform URL is your primary landing page, we recommend toggling this setting on so people can find it directly via search engines.

Remember:

  • Performance matters: Typeform embeds are optimized for speed, but always ensure your host page has a fast loading time to keep Google (or other search engines) happy.
  • Content is king: Since search engines can’t always "read" the text inside an iframe as part of your page’s SEO, make sure the text around the embed on your website clearly describes what the form is for.
  • Index with intent: Only turn on indexing for standalone forms if you aren't planning to embed them elsewhere; this prevents "duplicate content" confusion for search engines.

We hope that helps, but let us know in the comments if you have more questions!

Happy embedding! 🎉
