Last night I discovered that by clicking on the Edit link I could change the Meta tag, HOWEVER this morning when I went to do it , I got the message that I would have to upgrade my plan to do so…..even though I am the first to admit I am not software savvy, i am totally perplexed as to why the inconsistent message

The option to customize meta information is available on paid plans. If you're using the free version, unfortunately, you won't be able to do that. This help center article covers more details about this.
